Roy Lichtenstein – Meditations on art in Milan
To celebrate Roy Lichtenstein, who died in 1997 at the age of 74, the Triennale in Milan hosts from the 25th of January to the30th of May, a monographic exhibition that will trace the varioud stages in the career of the artist.
Meditations on art can see over one hundred works, including large cavases, drawings, collages and sculptures that come from public and private international collections like Ludwig Museum in Cologne, the Louisiana Museum in Copenhagen and the Whitney museum in New York.
The sections of the exhibition include works from the Fifties to the Nineties and are inspired by Cubism, Expressionism, Futurism, Modernism of the Thirties, minimalist abstraction, Action Painting, and genres of landscape and dead nature.
In addition to the famous paintings of large format like Figures in Landscape of 1977, Sunrise of 1965, or Girl with Tear of 1977, are also exposed works in classical style like the Lacoon of 1988 or oriental like the Vista with Brisge of 1966; in exposition also some of the works of Lichtenstein of the Fifties, in which the artist had to deal with medieval art and American art of the early nineteenth century.
