The appointment at Palazzo Reale is the first in a progressive cycle of six exhibits dedicated to the Transavantgarde movement and its protagonists, Sandro Chia, Francesco Clemente, Enzo Cucchi, Nicola De Maria and Mimmo Paladino will be presented together in a collective exhibition featuring 66 works. The curator has chosen 15 among the most significant and innovative works (some of which have never been on display) by each of the movement’s five protagonists – who also participated in the selection. The exhibit revolves around several common themes that elaborate the different artistic idioms adopted by the artists on display: a rediscovery of the manual skill of painting, the narcissism of the artist, the “double” and the other, violence, nature, the uncertainty of the quest, the subconscious and the image between design and abstraction – between two-dimensional and three-dimensional space.
